La Centralina - Spazio mobilità sostenibile

Identity

Centralina is a public space dedicated to sustainable mobility, health promotion, and movement education. It was born from the restoration of the former electrical substation of the Osservanza — a small technical building constructed between 1930 and 1940, now returned to the city with a new civic function.

The project is the result of a collaborative process involving the Nuovo Circondario Imolese, the Municipality of Imola, Con.Ami, and BAM! Strategie Culturali, with the aim of transforming a disused space into an accessible, recognisable, and community-oriented facility. Centralina is designed as a point of reference for families, schools, and citizens — a place for orientation and encounter where information, educational activities, and public initiatives come together in a practical way.

The name "Centralina" recalls the building's history as a node for the routing and transformation of energy. Today, that energy translates into everyday practices connected to active mobility, environmental awareness, and wellbeing. Not a traditional service centre, but a small urban hub that connects routes, people, and projects within a broader network running through Osservanza Imola and the city.

It opened on 14 December 2025, and the managing organisation that won the public tender was Giocathlon, a sports association founded to promote sport projects for children and young people through a multidisciplinary approach.

Why at Osservanza

Centralina is located within the Knowledge and Innovation Park, in a strategic position close to the entrance of the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Graces, facing Piazza Bianconcini. Its position places it near the main pedestrian and cycling routes. This location is no coincidence: Osservanza Imola is today one of the key sites of urban regeneration in the city, an area that is changing its function and meaning, opening itself ever more to the community.

Placing a space dedicated to sustainable mobility here means strengthening the connection between wellbeing, the environment, and the everyday use of public spaces. Centralina engages with the park as a natural extension of its activities: the outdoor courtyard and green areas become places for meeting, play, education, and experimentation.

In this context, Centralina is not merely a restored building, but an active outpost of the Knowledge and Innovation Park. A starting point and a returning point for those passing through the Osservanza, contributing to making this place ever more lived-in, accessible, and integrated into the life of the city.
